Elizabeth Waldorf retired from teaching environmental science at the Jeff Davis Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. In 2004 the college was listed in the top 100 community colleges in the US. As she told her students every semester on the first day of class, “This is the most important subject we teach.” She was born in coastal Mississippi, received a B. A. in biology from the University of Mississippi, an M. A. in zoology from Indiana University, and a Ph. D. in soil insect ecology from Ohio State University. She has published research papers on soil insect & spider ecology in American Midland Naturalist, Annals of Entomological Society of America, Ecology, Environmental Entomology, Psyche, Revue Ecologie & Biologie du Sol, and the Transactions of the American Microscopical Society. Mississippi 2020, an environmental network, annually gives Sustainable Future Awards. Elizabeth was honored with the 2002 Higher Education award. Only students named to “The National Dean’s List” can submit nominations of faculty for inclusion in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Twice, in 1996, and again in 2002, she has been nominated and listed. In July 2008, the second edition of Environmental Science Workbook was published. This updates the 30 exercises from the first edition and adds seven new exercises, including one on global warming. It expands the reusable workbook to 290 pages and the single use lab reports to 74 pages.
