Confessions of an Eco-Sinner, the Sources of my Stuff. Fred Pearce. 2008. Beacon Press.

An Englishman, Fred Pearce, travels the Earth to discover the sources of "stuff", the goods in his life. He attempts to determine if fair trade coffee growers, workers in gold mines, seamstresses in cotton mills, etc. get a fair wage, enough to support themselves. He explores green bean growers in Africa, prawn (shrimp) farmers in Bangladesh.

He discovers many people living in poverty at the edge of survival. He discovers resources near exhaustion. In getting certain goods from producer to market he finds corrupt middlemen that make huge profits.

This book exposes the difficulties of farmers, fishermen, factory workers and folks at the origin of our goods. It reveals the networks that in some cases support production and in other cases obstruct it. This book is almost as good as traveling to these sources and seeing it yourself. It is eye opening.
