Environmental
Science Workbook.
Second Edition.
2008. Elizabeth S. Waldorf. Tapestry Press, Biloxi, MS. 290p. This
soft cover, comb bound book presents 37 environmental science lab exercises.
Designed to be done on campus, these introduce college freshmen with no
college science experience to this vital subject.
The book includes diagrams, web-sites and two exercises that require
either on line or library research.
While the book focuses on the southeastern US, of the 37 exercises, 30 are suitable for use in the entire US. Parts of the remaining exercises apply generally and parts are specific to the SE region. While many of the 37 include outdoor lab work, 18 require only indoor work making them suitable for rainy days. The new edition includes an exercise on global warming, our most serious, urgent environmental threat.
To
accompany the workbook students need a copy of Environmental Science Workbook
Lab Reports. This second volume
is corner-stapled and three-hole punched. For each exercise a two page lab report must be completed.
Students must read and understand the exercise and carry out the lab work
to complete the lab report. Some
answers require thinking. The
books present up-to-date material in clear, easy to understand language.
The contents introduce biology, ecology, physical science and
environmental problems in a rigorous way. Whenever
possible, a positive approach to serious issues and solutions to problems are
offered. Each exercise concludes with a list of sources.
